Semester Abroad

I had the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in Brussels, Belgium for a semester. Through the Journalism School at the University of Missouri - Columbia, I spent this semester working as a Trainee Correspondent for REVOLVE Media, traveling to different cities and countries within the EU, as well taking photos of all the places I visited!

Ghent, Belgium

Ghent was a beautiful city in the Flanders region of Belgium. It is commonly referred to as the Venice of Belgium, due to it's canals that run throughout the city and all the way to France! I was lucky enough to spend a whole day in Ghent, exploring the famous Saint Nicholas Church, wandering the streets and having a guided tour on the canals, which you can see below.

Luxembourg, Luxembourg

My trip to Luxembourg was another day trip, but jam-packed with sight-seeing. Luxembourg is quite the picturesque, quintessential European town, with winding roads and rows of houses that appear to be stacked on top of one another. Their Royals even live right in the middle of town! There was also plenty of nature incorporated right into the area.

Berlin, Germany

There is an overload of history within Berlin that I was only able to scratch the surface over a short weekend trip. Due to the rain, we spent most of our first day in the Alte Nationalgalerie, an art museum on museum island. We also walked to the top of the Berlin Cathedral and saw the city from above. The Berlin Wall is probably the most mentioned monument when discussing Berlin and I had the opportunity to visit, and learn more about the area and time we were in, during the Cold War. Our final stop was at the Charlottenburg Palace, built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The amount of history that I have experienced on this program so far is vast, and I'm looking forward to everything else I will see.

Milan, Italy

How cool is it to visit Milan during Fashion Week? Being able to see so many famous and intensely created buildings while being surrounded by so much current culture was very cool to experience. Seeing the Duomo in person was quite the experience, and I still can't decide which part has more going on, the inside or the outside. I had a wonderful time, even during quite a dreary day.

Lake Como, Italy

I have dreamed of visiting Lake Como since I was a little girl. Looking out the window on the train ride there and coming out of a tunnel and suddenly seeing all the houses tucked into the side of the mountains truly brought tears to my eyes. Another rainy day, but I only think it added to the ambiance of the area. Photos below are from Como, Bellagio and Lenno, all cities that sit on the edge of Lake Como. I had a wonderful time visiting here, and I took some of my favorite photos yet.

Keukenhof Gardens, Lisse, The Netherlands

In April, 2024, I had an opportunity that I’ve been dreaming about since middle school: seeing Tulips in The Netherlands. The Keukenhof garden was so much bigger than I would have ever imagined and I never knew there were so many different species of tulips. Getting to see all the different varieties and colors of the tulips felt like something out of a movie.
